New etching by Ruth Laxson from the Atlanta Printmakers Studio

by Catherine Fox | Dec 21, 2009

Ruth Laxson has earned a national reputation for her imaginatively executed artist’s books. As in her drawings, painting and prints, the Atlanta artist merges image and text to convey thoughtful commentary that belies its whimsical demeanor.

She has described recent work as “an attempt to restore some of the texture and grain of life being flattened by cyberspace.” “Just a Note,” a print created as a fund-raiser for the Atlanta Printmakers Studio, is signature Laxson in imagery and theme.

“This etching is a poetic effort to retrieve the joy of mail hand- delivered by the postman,” says Laxson, “and an attempt to foster the survival of the handwritten page.”
