By Catherine Fox | Apr 19, 2010

Artists and other citizens will march from the Rialto Theater, 80 Forsyth St., to the Gold Dome today to protest the possible demise of the Georgia Council for the Arts.  The group will gather at 1 p.m. The rally is expected to last until 3 p.m.

Eyedrum invites you all to park in its parking lot and meet there afterward for a cook-out, Dance Truck performance and more strategizing.

The National Endowment for the Arts and South Arts have wieghed in; Now it’s your turn. Please sign the petition to show legislators that their constituents are paying attention.

A great show of artists and supporters, however one must ask where the Atlanta arts ‘leadership’ were – many organizations had a staff level presence, but not an artistic director from any of the ‘major’ organizations in town were present. While the dollars at stake were relatively small, the symbolism and impact on Atlanta’s reputation in the nation are significant – One must ask why there is no sense of combined, visibly engaged artistic leadership in the city?

Interesting point. To put the best construction on it, maybe they are working behind the scenes.
