From Susan Weiner, executive director of the Georgia Council for the Arts: The Georgia Senate has voted to approve the Appropriation Committee’s recommendation, which includes $890,735 restored to the council. This enables the agency to match its federal grant and retain regional funding that, combined, equals more than $1 million.
One more hurdle remains before a final budget reaches the governor: the Conference Committee, made up of equal numbers of House members and senators. The committee’s purpose is to reconcile the differences between their budgets.

This is an outstanding issue and needs a louder voice in our art community.
Thank-You for the continued updates.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on this. Love the accessibility of the internet and you with a blog! (We’re stuck in London thanks to the volcano). Preaching to the choir when I say that the arts are critical for our State, but they are. Thanks and thanks to all who are fighting to retain the funding.

Thank you for keeping us updated about the GCA. The arts play such an important part in this state as they do in every state. I am so glad the vote was to keep the GCA.
I love this blog. Thanks for keeping us updated with so many interesting things happening in the arts.
